It's been a little while since I've written anything here... I keep having dreams of keeping a fandom journal, and then, doing nothing with that Idea? Anyway,..

Today I worked on two projects: the first is a fanbind of By Any Other Name. That involved working on creating two elements for the file page. These are little images that decorate the page. The first one I created was a flaming feather.

The Flaming Feather

So this feather... I was very inspired by this image:



and I used this bonfire image to find inspiration for the shape of my flames.



The feather was never actually intendedn to be a feather -- it's supposed to be a leaf. Anyway, I'm not 100% satisfied with it, but perhas what's done is good!

That Sketch

It's... been a long time since I drew, but having joined the Dabi Bang, I really feel the need to show people what I can do! It's a lot of pressure to put on myself, tbh. I need to chill a bit more. With bookbinding, it's cool, we can do poorly and still have a lot of fun. But with art, I have expectations!! And with a bang, I wanna draw lovely things for the writer!!

Anyway, enough fretting. The progress! This art (much like canon MHA!) is all about the hands. I ended up using some guides for the fingers -- one character has outstreatched, flat fingers that are experiencing a fair bit of foreshortening. so creating little 4-sided shapes to represent those really helped. I'll add a discord link, not sure it'll work...



honestly it's a bit of a reminder to chill out about my digital drawing. The progress of going from "sketch that suggests the presence of fingers" to "we have individual fingers now!" went pretty smoothly.

What I read today

Today, I got up to date with Finding Light by owlonapanda on ao3! (ch 4).

What next?

Tomorrow, I need to do a couple of things I'm avoiding. cleaning up, phone calls... confessing my sins... but I think I'd like to work on my sketch and maybe some programming?

I was wondering if you were still fanbinding!! I'm glad to see you are :D And you've increased the size of the stories you can work on by a lot, wow!!! Congrats :D

The sketch is really well done!! Getting back into art by signing up for a bang is hardcore, best of luck with it :D I think Discord deletes images quite quickly nowadays. Dreamwidth has a limited way to upload images, or Squidge Images offers a more persistent way for fandom-related images!

Not sure if you're aware or interested, but if you'd like to share your fanbinding/art WIPs for BNHA, we have regular progress sharing posts on bnha_fans, and also I think it'd be amazing to write a post about the final work once you're done with something, if that's something you're interested in sharing!! I think it's a super cool fannish activity and fanwork type.

I've just gotten back into binding, turns out there's a huge fic binding community! They're very cool, so many people who have so much knowledge. Although it was quite funny hearing the recommendation to read a story thoroughly before binding it. When I bound yours, reading the story for the first time was my reward for finishing!

It's a rough time to get back into it though, there's serious drama afoot that we are really hoping stays in its corner!

Haha, whatever works to get oneself to finish one's projects :D renegadepublishing is also on Dreamwidth though not as active as on other platforms, unfortunately! I'd love to see people's projects on my reading page XD

Ooh you fanbind? That's so cool! I don't know much about it, but I love that apparently you're adding extra visual elements? Flames and feathers definitely fit Dabi/Hawks!

Hands are so hard to draw, but the bit you've shown looks good with the angling. Good luck on the bang!
