Mar. 6th, 2024 07:20 pmI'm so tired, but I really want to get this out! I finished the artwork I was working on; it's not very detailed but I'm rusty and fretting over making it better than I was at my best is very, very silly.
I'm fantasising about trying a new type of collaborative fanwork -- something small, and half-zine, half-game, all website. I'm wondering who might want to be a part of it. I'll need to ask humans. Terrifying creatures.
So, what's next? I got to ramble about the plot of one of my sleeping fanfics to someone yesterday and it was SO exciting, it's just a little weird thematically because... I don't want to get too into it, but it's a dabihawks fic and the way they end up together in the end is a tragedy from Dabi's pov. But that's going to be deeply unexpected for any reader who's not paying close attention to the theme? Maybe I just need to foreshadow the ending better. Maybe I should bring in Hawks' relationship (and lack thereof) with his mother to round out the themes??? ohh, there's an idea... oh and I forgot about the mask theme...
Hopefully I'll squeeze in some writing, bookbinding, low stakes art, and personal website things over the next few days.

Fandom Arting
Finished working on the lines of my WIP! And I started trying out colours, but I really need to start studying some references at least.
ps. just added the dabihawks ao3 feed; I think it was a mistake XD I maybe I need a modified form that updates once a day.
Fandom Coding
I wrote the code to fill the tests from yesterday. It took a while, but the tests were passing on the first try, which... is really a testament to both how I've improved as a programmer and how helpful the tools are that I'm using. One of those tools was [regex101.com], which I usually use to write and test my regular expressions.( Excessive Coding Noises for the Curious )

I had an interesting chat to some folks about AO3 commenting culture. One of us was reminicing about "the good old days" when ao3 comments were where people had lively chats. Another was talking about how in their fandom (iirc youtube minecraft) there were often conversations so long they turned the replies into skinny spaghetti strands of fragmented words. I never recall much conversation on ao3 myself, but I love seeing it and participating in it, and I think it's worth asking an author if they'd like conversation in their comments -- they might not even thought of it, and as one of my conversation parters said, maybe they do but aren't comfortable asking. For some authors, it'd be nice for a reader to take the first step.Recs & Reads

Things have been a little rough. My mood's been flaring up, which means I need to rest a lot and try to fore myself to sleep, meanwhile I am completely scatter-brained and can barely focus.
My recent fandoming has been around [fandom coders] and their project [AO3.js]. It's a scraper that I'm trying to add kink meme functionality to, which would make it easier to build tools to run and talk about AO3-hosted kinkmemes -- eg. you could embed a prompt into Discord, which afaik is functionality no bot offers right now.
I only managed to get a little done -- I wrote some tests for the task What is the author of this prompt, what pseud did they sign up with, or did they create an anonymous prompt? This problem is... simple for now, but I foresee it being... near impossible later. It was suggested to me that I submit a ticket to AO3 asking if they could change the HTML of kink memes to make this easier. ngl, I was kind of horrified by the suggestion! I haven't even submitted any of my changes yet, I'm not ready to be a real coder.
The code fails the test right now, but that's the whole point of test-centered development.

Feb. 26th, 2024 07:55 pmIt's been a little while since I've written anything here... I keep having dreams of keeping a fandom journal, and then, doing nothing with that Idea? Anyway,..
Today I worked on two projects: the first is a fanbind of By Any Other Name. That involved working on creating two elements for the file page. These are little images that decorate the page. The first one I created was a flaming feather.
So this feather... I was very inspired by this image:
and I used this bonfire image to find inspiration for the shape of my flames.
The feather was never actually intendedn to be a feather -- it's supposed to be a leaf. Anyway, I'm not 100% satisfied with it, but perhas what's done is good!
It's... been a long time since I drew, but having joined the Dabi Bang, I really feel the need to show people what I can do! It's a lot of pressure to put on myself, tbh. I need to chill a bit more. With bookbinding, it's cool, we can do poorly and still have a lot of fun. But with art, I have expectations!! And with a bang, I wanna draw lovely things for the writer!!
Anyway, enough fretting. The progress! This art (much like canon MHA!) is all about the hands. I ended up using some guides for the fingers -- one character has outstreatched, flat fingers that are experiencing a fair bit of foreshortening. so creating little 4-sided shapes to represent those really helped. I'll add a discord link, not sure it'll work...
honestly it's a bit of a reminder to chill out about my digital drawing. The progress of going from "sketch that suggests the presence of fingers" to "we have individual fingers now!" went pretty smoothly.
Today, I got up to date with Finding Light by owlonapanda on ao3! (ch 4).
Tomorrow, I need to do a couple of things I'm avoiding. cleaning up, phone calls... confessing my sins... but I think I'd like to work on my sketch and maybe some programming?
