I read some comics recently.

Dark Heart's cover

Dark Heart #1 [Indigiverse]

I bought this at comic con a while back. Today, I was feeling excited to read comics and was delighted. It was so lovely to see my country and its stories on the pages. I, too, have gotten into trouble in a camper van in the Blue Mountains!

WONDER WOMAN HISTORIA: THE AMAZONS #1 cover

Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons [DC Comics]

This one came highly recommended -- well enough that I decided to take a risk on buying the hardcover and reading it like that! I adore it, honestly. I cried a lot. I thought a lot. A lot of it went over my head. Thoughts it gave me include that western, anglophone (ie. english-speaking) culture likes to claim Ancient Greece as its ancestor -- and this book reminds us that if that is so, then we also claim a history of patriarchal oppression. A lot of grief. A lot of companionship.

It's a creation story for the Amazons, and doesn't feature Diana/Wonder Woman herself -- Instead the protagonist is Hippolyta, who we meet as a midwife in Ancient Greece. The story made the female part of myself feel seen -- appropriate given Hera's role in the story.

Primer cover

Primer [DC Comics]

I finished Primer today!

It was a fun little romp -- I was interested in learning about a new character and intend to give the book on now I'm done with it. I was keen to meet a new character.

Gotham Academy #1's cover

Gotham Academy #1 [DC Comics]

I was inspired to read this by the amazing Danny Phantom/DC Comics fanfic Better Halves (and other such falsehoods), which brought in the character Maps from this comic. It's a fun read. And it's first arc deals with ghost rumors! Such a neat coincidence.
